This page is to personally promote services, organisations and groups that were supportive in my recovery and supportive in my current work, as well as organisations that I want to publicise.

Flinders Medical Centre

Flinders Medical Centre is a public and private hospital located south of Adelaide in Bedford Park. FMC is one of two major trauma centres in SA.

I spent my whole month of January, 2020 there. My experience in the ICCU was outstanding. The neurosurgeons who operated on me that night performed an incredible life-saving surgery.

The neurosurgeons and nurses at Flinders Medical Centre will never be forgotten.

Brain Injury SA

Brain Injury SA (BISA), located in Adelaide, Noarlunga Centre and Elizabeth, run many programs for people with brain injuries. A program called the yRTP (Youth Reconnect Transition Program) is one that I attended. It is a 10 week program for people aged between 16-25 who are adjusting to life after a brain injury.

This program was absolutely amazing, and I recommend this to anyone who has experienced a brain injury. It was great to learn more about brain injuries, relating to others, and hear how others get through it.

Neurosurgical Research Foundation

"The objective of the foundation is directed towards funding research into the cause, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease or malfunction of the brain, spine and nerves."

The NRF have been massive supporters to me. Their work is so special to me and I'm so grateful to have met a handful of their team. Their work is purely focused on the brain and what can be done to better improve the lives of people with brain related problems. Their study areas include: Brain tumours, stroke, brain haemorrhages and aneurysms, paediatric research, neurotrauma (spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury), and neurodegeneration (Parkinson's disease, concussion).

Donate here or create a fundraiser, just like I did: https://www.nrf.com.au/

Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre

Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre, located in Lightsview, is a rehabilitation centre for people suffering neurological disorders, such as traumatic brain injury and stroke, as well as spinal cord injury, orthopaedic conditions and amputations.

Much of my initial rehab was done here. I relearnt many things here and had a great experience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

7 News

7 News have given me opportunities to tell my story and to promote my fundraisers. Having such a popular and public outlet to promote myself and my work has been such an amazing help and support.

The Orange Butterfly

The Orange Butterfly is run by Lauren Spear, a friend of mine who also suffers from a TBI. Lauren shares her story on The Orange Butterfly website for people wanting to relate or find out more about her, provides information about TBI's, the effects her TBI had on her well-being and mental health, and to promote and support awareness about the importance of mental health during a TBI recovery.

On the last Saturday of every month, Lauren encourages people to come out to her 'Butterfly Hour'; an hour spent in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens to promote nature's ability to positively impact brain health, behaviour and wellness.

Move For Lex

Based in Noosa, Alexa Leary is a triathlete who won a silver medal in the Junior World Titles in Switzerland. On July 17, 2021, she had a cycling accident which put her in a coma for two weeks in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital ICU. She then spent a further two months in the Neurosurgery Ward. She now suffers a life-changing brain injury.

Move For Lex is a fundraiser to raise money for the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital to reduce trauma and loss suffered by families of ICU patients.

So, "let's get moving, for those who can't!", and donate to Lex's cause.

Physiocare 360

While training for my run for the NRF, I had a few problems with my knee. I went to Physiocare 360, located on Cross Roads.

My physio, Malia, was a huge help leading up to my run, and has been during my training and recovery. She gives me exercises to do to strength my legs, tips on a better running form, and straps my knee for support when running.

Goodwood Saints

Goodwood Saints Football Club have been such a supportive club to me. I am currently an assistant coach for the girls U17.5 team. I was given the runner's role last year, 2021, during a time where I felt I had no purpose. I was still going through rehab and finishing up surgeries and had nothing to do. The club have been such a support to me during my recovery and I am so lucky to be involved in such an amazing club.
